Powerful Winds
Last week’s powerful storm here on the coast of Maine brought 70mph winds just at high tide. The high winds pushed the sea into my little town which has sustained a great deal of damage. My daily walk along the harbor, over the boardwalk, and across the pedestrian bridge is now impassable with great damage to the boardwalk. We have a nearly identical storm coming in now as I write this. It is certainly worrisome.
Winds bring Change
Pluto is moving ever closer to the powerful change that is already rocking our world. On Saturday, January 20th, the Sun and Pluto grasp hands as they each enter Aquarius within several hours of each other. This is a very powerful ingress.
*Please, DO NOT equate Pluto moving into Aquarius with the age of Aquarius.
If you remember something bubbling up in your life last Spring (late March to mid-June) that involved the house that holds Aquarius in your natal chart (use the whole sign house system), watch for its return. That was a preliminary glimpse into the future, we get a clearer view between now and September. At that point, Pluto will take one more backward glance into Capricorn (between September 1st – November 19th) before remaining in Aquarius until 2043.*Please, DO NOT equate this with the age of Aquarius.

Today expresses much of the same energies as yesterday with the Moon continuing through the cardinal fires sign of Aries. We may feel dynamic and spontaneous, encouraged to embrace a proactive mindset and take bold initiatives. Aries, known for its fiery nature, instills a sense of enthusiasm and a desire for action. We all feel the urge to assert our independence and pursue our individual goals with passion.
At 3:14 PM EST, the Aries Moon forms a square aspect with Mars in Capricorn. This introduces a dynamic tension between the assertiveness of Aries and the disciplined ambition of Mars in Capricorn. Mars rules Aries making this doubly important. Although you may encounter a clash of resistance, stay steady and you can make great strides in learning how to balance impulsive tendencies with a pragmatic approach. Bringing mindfulness to your actions and decisions will go a long way toward an important lesson in self-management.

This blends Mercury’s communicative and intellectual focus with Saturn’s disciplined and structured influence. With both Mercury and Jupiter in stable earth signs, they form a trine aspect in the early hours of the morning. Mercury is the planet of communication and intellect and Jupiter is the planet of expansion, faith, and belief. This flowing connection between them suggests a time of optimistic and broad-minded thinking. This should be a favorable time for dry humor and effective communication, a great time to make plans and engage in thoughtful discussions that expand higher understanding.
At 10:48 AM EST, a very different planetary conversation occurs as Venus forms a square aspect to Neptune.
Pay careful attention to this as it may bring a sense of ambiguity in relationships, as well as challenges in distinguishing between reality and illusion. While Venus seeks harmony and connection, Neptune’s influence can introduce a touch of romantic idealism, lack of clarity, uncertainty, and even confusion. This is a time to approach interactions with others with a discerning eye, being mindful of potential illusions as well as unfulfilled expectations.
The stabilizing presence of the Taurus Moon adds a touch of practicality to these dynamics. A great way to use this day is to spend time with music or creative endeavors. Rest, sing, listen to or make music, swim, write or read poetry, watch old movies, daydream.

THE POWER OF CHANGE – SUN AND PLUTO ENTER AQUARIUS

Today marks a powerful moment in time as the Sun joins forces with Pluto at the very unstable 29th degree of Capricorn. Right after they come together the two of them move into Aquarius, hand in hand. We are all invited to pay attention to power dynamics, on a personal, collective, and global level. Here in my little coastal town, I am watching the unbelievable power of the ocean as it is confronting and transforming our coastline. The damage we are watching in weather events and wars all over the world are excellent metaphors for Pluto. On a personal level, this is a time to confront our understanding of power in all its forms.
The Sun and Pluto conjunct at 8:45 PM EST, the Sun enters Aquarius at 9:07 AM EST, and Pluto enters Aquarius at 7:50 PM EST.
Pluto is the slowest planet, taking 248 years to travel the entire ecliptic. For comparison, it takes the Moon 28 days and the Sun 365 days. The last time Pluto was in Aquarius was between 1777 and 1797. Pluto will remain in Aquarius (with one tiny retrograde September – November 2024) until 2043. Pluto brings major change, the purpose of which is empowerment. However, Pluto will destroy whatever is in the way of that ultimate empowerment. Look what it has done in Capricorn since 2008!
