LET’S GO FLY A KITE
For me, this is the theme of Spring 2023! Go fly a kite. Yesterday Dave and I headed to Beech Hill Preserve with two kites. The wind was perfect and quickly got both kites to the end of their lines.
One of the things I love about doing this is the reaction from others. We are providing folks with a great model of older people simply playing and having a good time.
I saw a store in Camden that proclaims in big letters ‘You Are Never Too Old To Play”. I think it is important for all of us to keep this in mind. Because play means something different to all of us we need to get clear on its meaning to us individually. If you have your astrological birth chart the sign on the cusp or held within your 5th house will give you a clue.
- Aries in your 5th (Sagittarius rising): play is assertive and physical
- Taurus in your 5th (Capricorn rising): play is sensual and beautiful
- Gemini in your 5th (Aquarius rising): play involves words and storytelling
- Cancer in your 5th (Pisces rising): play involves nurturing and love
- Leo in your 5th (Aries rising): play is creative and expressive
- Virgo in your 5th (Taurus rising): play involves analyzing information and being helpful
- Libra in your 5th (Gemini rising): play involves engaging with and pleasing others
- Scorpio in your 5th (Cancer rising): play involves intensity and is on the dark side
- Sagittarius in your 5th (Leo rising): play involves experiences of travel or exploration
- Capricorn in your 5th (Virgo rising): play is serious and looks more like work to others
- Aquarius in your 5th (Libra rising): play involves intellectual innovation and high ideals
- Pisces in your 5th (Scorpio rising): play is dreamy and imaginative
ENGAGE YOUR TENDER HEART
Monday, April 17, 2023
The Moon begins the week in Pisces suggesting the need to slow down and pay attention to subtle intangible imagination. As the Moon passes through this mutable water sign we encounter deep sensitivity, and are able to connect with our muse and imagination. Allow boundaries between yourself and others to blur. Understanding and compassion flow effortlessly between self and others.
At 2:56 PM EDT, the Moon joins with Neptune increasing the illusive sometimes confusing nature of Pisces. Listen to music, read poetry, and engage your inner spiritual understanding.
At 9:10 PM EDT, the Moon enters Aries, vulnerability is released and you feel more energized. Over the next few days, you will need to find a challenge. Not just any challenge will do. This must be something that you can manage and complete on your own without the help of others. Aries is a solitary sign, having little patience for outside input.
DO YOUR OWN THING
Tuesday, April 18, 2023
The Moon continues through Aries today. Don’t expect subtlety or forethought from yourself or others. Everyone may be in a hurry and less sensitive than usual. Cooperation is probably lacking as we are all rather self-involved when the Moon is in this cardinal fire sign.
When the Moon is in Aries we need a personal challenge that can be managed and completed on its own without outside help. The challenge you are looking for today must be something that takes courage. If you don’t need some courage to take action here, this is not the best challenge.
At 6:17 PM EDT, the Moon squares Mars. Watch out for the potentially loose cannon of your own thoughts, words, and actions. Doing your own thing, on your own is the best way to get anything done today.
SELFISHNESS OVERRIDDEN
Wednesday, April 19, 2023
With the Moon in Aries, there is a strong need to do something, to take direct, even sudden action. Expressions of personal courage will move you forward. You may find that everyone reacts without much forethought and with even less patience today.
At 1:27 PM ET, the Aries Moon joins Jupiter, the planet of expansion and joy. This softens the harder side of Aries leaving more kindness and forgiveness on the table. We may remain opinionated, thinking we know and can do best, but our sense of what is fair and right overrides selfishness.
SOLAR ECLIPSE – TAURUS SEASON BEGINS
Thursday, April 20, 2023
Today’s New Moon Solar Eclipse (12:13 AM EDT) puts the emphasis on issues of taking action and getting things done. This eclipse occurs at the final degree of Aries. Aries brings your attention to direct action, courage, and determination. In most of the US, this will occur on the 19th shortly before midnight.
Rethink your New Moon Ritual
During an eclipse, there is the potential for swift developments and intense periods of growth. Look at your own natal chart to determine what house and at what point the eclipse falls. If it is conjunct a personal planet or angle watch for the eclipse’s impact to be related to the planet or point involved. If it does not fall at a sensitive point, you may be off the hook for major change.
Don’t count on that so take note of any unexpected revisions in the area of life suggested by the house placement over the coming months. Unanticipated occurrences in your life during this time are pulling you toward a realignment with your path forward.
These turning points can be chaotic, destabilizing, and challenging. Try a more passive wait-and-see observational approach. Allow the energy of the eclipse to move you without interference. Instead of pushing your own agenda by performing a ritual, stay open and curious about where the universe is taking you.
Do a tarot spread, journal, meditate, or take a walk in the woods. Stay open to the energy of self-reflection, and allow the universe to move you. Take time to stabilize yourself exactly where you are, and listen to the messages that come rather than trying to direct your future. Where in your life is this occurring?
- Aries, 1st House: Personality, self-expression
- Taurus, 12th House: Unconscious, hidden wisdom
- Gemini, 11th House: Community, love received
- Cancer, 10th House: Career, social recognition
- Leo, 9th House: World view, higher understanding
- Virgo, 8th House: Shared resources, other people’s values
- Libra, 7th House: Partnership, public relationships
- Scorpio, 6th House: Routines, health, service to others
- Sagittarius, 5th House: Creativity, children, love given
- Capricorn, 4th House: Home, family, the root of your life
- Aquarius, 3rd House: Communications, environment, siblings
- Pisces, 2nd House: Self-worth, finances, resources
Sun enters Taurus
At 4:13 AM EDT, the Sun enters Taurus, beginning Taurus Season. Mercury and Uranus are already in Taurus ready to welcome the warmth and heat of the Sun. When we think of Taurus, the image of the massive strong Bull comes to mind.
Taurus is not the raging bull we see in images of bullfights, but the Bull who knows it can rest in its considerable power. Ferdinand the Bull is the perfect symbol of Taurus. Taurus knows its power and strength and has no need to engage it when it is not necessary. Taurus is far more interested in sitting under the tree smelling the spring flowers. This is the fixed earth sign ruled by Venus.
Here we see the sensual side of Venus, the side that connects us to reverence, the earth, sensuality, and tangible resources. Taurus Season is the Fixed part of Spring.
Here in the Northern Hemisphere, we encounter the natural world coming alive. Flowers bloom, farm and woodland creatures give birth, the sun warms the earth, and our bodies come alive with pleasure. Taurus is a very physical sign that can be as immovable as the earth itself. Taurus asks that we slow down and very deliberately set all hurry aside. One foot in front of the other, one step at a time. Who wins the race, the tortoise or the hare?
PREPARE FOR THE WEEKS AHEAD – MERCURY STATIONS RETROGRADE
Friday, April 21, 2023
At 4:35 AM EDT, Mercury stationed retrograde. You have probably noticed the symptoms of its slowing down over the past few days. Mercury retrograde is one of those things that you hear about from your friends and in social media memes. Pop astrology loves to use Mercury retrograde as a scapegoat for all kinds of problems, glitches, difficulties, and delays. It is true that those difficulties are often a part of Mercury’s retrograde cycle but they are not inevitable. As you learn to work with these cycles you will find that, with proper planning, the gift of accomplishment can just as well be a result of this time.
When a planet is retrograde it does not mean that the planet reverses its direction. It means that from our perspective on Earth, it looks as if the planet is moving backward. It is a matter of perspective, not actuality. When a planet looks to be moving in reverse our experience of the things the planet represents behaves differently than normal.
Mercury represents thinking, communicating, timing, schedules, and projects. When Mercury is retrograde communications may go wonky, you may be misunderstood, and there may be delays and setbacks in projects. If you anticipate and prepare for these issues you can gain great value from the time of Mercury’s retrograde.
Mercury retrograde offers time to catch up on all that has been left incomplete since the last Mercury Retrograde (December 29, 2022 – January 18, 2023). This is a powerful opportunity to slow down, review, recheck, reassess, and revisit what can now be completed.
This entire retrograde occurs in the house of your chart that holds Taurus. The steps between 15 degrees Taurus and 5 degrees Taurus must be renavigated. Look to the house that holds Taurus to understand where this reassessment of projects and plans will occur for you.
Working with mercury retrograde is rather simple. Make an extensive list of everything you have started and have not completed since January 18th. This is a powerful time to get things done. Focus on checking things off this list! This is not the time to start new projects or communications, but to clean up what is undone from the past. While Mercury is retrograde you may find that your intuition functions more than your intellect.
Mercury retrograde is a good time to:
- Learn patience, flexibility, and adaptability
- Communicate clearly
- Make sure what you have said understood
- Be hyper-aware of your own schedule and be patient with others
- Prepare for delays
- Pay close attention to details
- Slow down
- Be realistic with all timelines
- Take some time off from social media (listen to music instead)
- Seek simplicity
Mercury retrograde is a common phenomenon that occurs 3 times per year. Do not underestimate the gift of completion that Mercury retrograde offers. By focusing on completing the projects and tasks left behind since the last Mercury retrograde you will accomplish a great deal.
