I can’t imagine why I didn’t expect it. After all, winter has come each of the many years of my life. My response to the unexpected cold and snow was to hunker down and hardly go out at all. That was not the best response for many reasons, but there you have it!

This is a big week as so many are busily preparing for the holidays ahead. On Tuesday we come to a significant Sagittarius New Moon – be sure to watch the video that Jennie and I made. On Wednesday we begin the last Mercury retrograde of 2023.

Because I hardly went out, I didn’t get any good pictures of our snowstorm to post this week.

Mercury Retrograde December 2023: Insight and Authority

This Mercury Retrograde moves between 8º Capricorn – 22º Sagittarius

In pop culture, Mercury’s retrograde periods cause a kerfuffle, as people attribute technological, transportation, and travel disruptions to them. Laurie and Jennie are here to allay your concerns and discuss the best use of this time of review, respite, and retreat.

As the planet closest to the Sun, Mercury serves as the messenger planet and refers to all things communication, including how you learn, think, talk, listen, and distribute information. Mercury retrogrades about 4 times a year. The illusion of Mercury appearing to turn backward in orbit only happens due to our perspective from Earth.

Because Mercury retrogrades in Capricorn and re-enters Sagittarius, it is helpful to look at both areas of your life that hold these two signs. Before you can move forward in the pragmatic and results-oriented way that Capricorn represents, you must go back and retrieve the levity, light, and wisdom that Sagittarius inspires. As December Begins…

Welcome to the final month of 2023. Whether this year has brought joy or heartache, it is now drawing to a close. Are you ready to welcome 2024 with open arms, or do you find yourself resisting its imminent arrival?

On a personal note, I’ve just reached my progressed New Moon. This is a cycle of approximately twenty-eight years and provides a macrocosmic view of the monthly lunar cycle. As I embark on this new cycle, I feel a compelling need to initiate and project my efforts decisively into the future. I feel the shift in direction. Each progressed New Moon brings with it, the opportunity to embrace the changes that will lead us forward. Given that this will likely be the last progressed New Moon in my lifetime, I am determined to make the most of it.

Similar to each New Moon in the mundane cycle, the job of our personal progressed New Moon is to decide which seeds to plant, nurture them in the best available soil, provide adequate water, and place them in a sunny window. It is important to allow intuition and magic to assist this process at the progressed New Moon. Therefore I am actively seeking guidance from my 12th house planets to support my understanding of the steps to take and the seeds to sow.

I’m already aware of changes coming, including anticipating my first book being published by Weiser in 2024. Simultaneously, I’m beginning research for my next writing project. I’ve initiated a workshop/workgroup — an exclusive offering for my Patreon community— focusing on exploring personal, ancestral, and collective trauma through the lens of the natal chart. Roadtrip to Vermont

I was away visiting family and friends in Vermont for part of last week and over the weekend. I had a lovely time spending time with my cohort Jennie Date (of Hidden Path Astrology) and her wife Jenn, had a delightful visit with astrology friends I’ve known for over 30 years, and spent time with my daughter and granddaughter.

I started out thinking that I was going to teach my granddaughter to make baklava, However, as it turned out I simply observed her process as she needed very minimal, if any direction. She is an amazingly competent young woman who continues to impress and amaze me. Yes, I know, I am bragging.

It was a whirlwind of a trip and I have spent much of this week trying to catch up on work and rest!

Spending time with close friends and family during these very short days and long periods of darkness is so important for the health of our hearts and souls.

I am just recovering from a wonderful Halloween celebration with good friends and wild costumes. I am delighted to live in a small city that knows how to celebrate this holiday as well as a boyfriend who loves to make crazy masks.

The festivities began with an event sponsored by DoryWomen Rowing. Regrettably, I couldn’t capture any pictures due to my costume, but the sight of numerous boats with witches braving the bitterly cold wind was awe-inspiring. They are undoubtedly a resilient bunch!

Following that, my friends, Dave, Martina, Patty, Katherine, and Dave roamed the vibrant chaos of Cedar Street’s celebration in full regalia. The veil is certainly thin this time of year. I relish the embrace of darkness, fear, and the concept of mortality. After all, we are all on the same journey; we may as well make it a graceful, fun, and celebratory one.

When everyone was gone the next day realized how utterly drained I was. Time to rest! Mr. Cat (Kairos) was equally exhausted from the flurry of company and activities. So, we both surrendered to slumber for the better part of Wednesday.
