Prepare for Mercury Stationing Retrograde On Tuesday

Prepare for Mercury Stationing Retrograde On Tuesday

You hear about it from your friends and in social media memes. Pop astrology loves to use Mercury retrograde as a scapegoat for all kinds of problems, glitches, difficulties, and delays. Those things can be a part of Mercury’s retrograde cycle but this is not inevitable. It is possible that as you work with these cycles you will find the gift of accomplishment to be a result of this time.

When a planet is retrograde it does not mean that the planet reverses its direction. It means that from our perspective on earth, it looks as if the planet is moving backward. It is a matter of perspective, not actuality. When a planet looks to be moving in reverse our experience of the things the planet represents behaves, unlike our expectations.

Mercury represents thinking, communicating, timing, schedules, and projects. When Mercury is retrograde communications may go wonky, you may be misunderstood, and there may be delays and setbacks in projects. If you anticipate and prepare for these issues you can gain great value from the time of Mercury’s retrograde.

This is the time to catch up on all kinds of things that have been left incomplete since the last Mercury Retrograde (February 4, 2022). This is a powerful opportunity to slow down, review, recheck, reassess, and revisit what can now be completed.

This retrograde begins in the house of your chart that holds Gemini and moves back into Taurus on May 22nd. Look to those two houses in your chart (Gemini & Taurus) to understand where this reassessment of projects and plans will occur for you.

Working with mercury retrograde is rather simple. If possible, service your car and computer ahead of the retrograde. A few days before its occurrence sit down and make an extensive list of everything you have started and not completed since last October. This is a powerful time to get things done. Focus on checking things off this list! This is not the time to start new projects or communications, but to clean up what is undone from the past.

While Mercury is retrograde you may find that your intuition functions more than your intellect.

  • Mercury retrograde is a good time to:
  • To learn patience, flexibility, and adaptability
  • Communicate clearly
  • Make sure what you have said understood
  • Be hyper-aware of your own schedule and be patient with others
  • Prepare for delays
  • Pay close attention to details
  • Slow down
  • Be realistic with all timelines
  • Take some time off from social media (listen to music instead)
  • Seek simplicity

Mercury retrograde is a common phenomenon that occurs 3 times per year. The first Mercury retrograde of 2022 began on January 14 and ended on February 4th. This one begins on May 10th and continues until June 3rd. The final Mercury retrograde of 2022 will occur from September 9th until October 2nd.

Never underestimate the gift of completion that Mercury retrograde offers. By focusing on completing the projects and tasks left behind since the last Mercury retrograde you will accomplish a great deal.

If you feel a bit under the weather emotionally trust that will pass as quickly as the Moon releases its opposition to Saturn at 8:38 AM EDT.

Once that has passed you can enjoy the warmth and brightness of the Leo Moon. Being ruled by the Sun, Leo turns our attention to all that is warm and bright. The Moon in Leo brings a spark of inspiration to the day. We want to shine brightly and express ourselves with a larger-than-life warmth and kindness. Playful generosity and the desire to be fully expressed propels us through the bulk of the day.

Things will settle into a more serious tone as the Moon enters Virgo at 6:53 PM EDT. Plan to put simple kindness at the center of your agenda over the next few days. Kindness toward yourself is just as important as kindness to others. When the Moon passes through Virgo it is easy to focus on perfection and self-criticism. Kindness, perspective, and realistic expectations will help.

Several very important things happen today. At 7:47 AM EDT Mercury stations retrograde. You have probably felt it slowing down for some days now.

When the Moon passes through the Mercury-ruled signs of Virgo and Gemini we feel the retrograde more strongly. Today with the Moon in Virgo do your best to release perfectionism and make certain that your priorities are realistic. Focus your attention on practical detail-oriented tasks. This is a great time to clean out your overcrowded email inbox, or clean and organize your desk, closets, and junk drawer.

Please read the preliminary piece at the beginning of this post. It will give you all you need to know to work successfully with this cycle.

Now let’s think about Jupiter entering Aries at 7:21 PM EDT. If you have not read the post or watched the video that Jennie and I made last week, click on this picture of Jennie and me to do so now. At the very least listen to the part where we discuss how this impacts your particular sign. When you come to the YouTube video you will find time stamps to make it easy to listen to the part you want. Use your rising sign if you know it, and your sun sign if you do not. Please listen to the first 10+ minutes of the conversation before clicking on the time stamp. Included in that post is the piece Jennie wrote. Don’t miss it!

Jupiter represents expanding and widening horizons, opportunities, and understanding. Jupiter in Aries makes our desire for growth very personal and focused on each individual’s drive for self-fulfillment.

Because of the retrograde periods, Jupiter has moved in and out of Pisces and will be there one more time before it is done.  Jupiter’s time in Pisces has been a time of dreaming, resting, and grieving.  Now, as Jupiter blasts forward into Aries, consider the dream you are ready to take action on. Jupiter began its current journey in Pisces in May 2021. Jupiter takes 12 years to move through the Zodiac. The last time Jupiter entered Aries was in June 2010. What can thinking back to that time tell you about what to expect as Jupiter now returns to that path?

Knowing the house that holds ARIES in your chart will show you where the expansion of Jupiter is asking you to take COURAGEOUS ACTION.

The Moon continues through Virgo today, clearly impacted by the fact that Mercury (Virgo’s ruling planet) is retrograde.

Focusing your attention on organization and practicality will support you today. Don’t allow overly judgemental thoughts to crowd your mind leaving you disappointed in yourself or others. If you find yourself feeling fussy, turn your attention to being of service to others with kindness. Breath and release excessive expectations and control.

Think about what you can control and where you can use fussy perfectionism. Do the laundry, and organize something at work or in your personal life. Roll up your sleeves and clean and tidy something practical. Look under your sink, it is probably a mess. Put your perfectionistic expectations to work there. That will make you feel much better than turning that critical eye on yourself or others.

If you are able to take a walk in nature do that today as well. In the natural world, you will see a model of a delightful mess of perfectionism and organization. Model yourself after that type of perfectionism. A daily practice of walking in nature will build and open your heart and your understanding of life.

In the deep hours of the night, the Moon traveled out of Virgo and entered Libra. This allows us to put our more critical nature aside and move into a few days more focused on connections with others and social pleasantries.

With the Moon in Libra, our desires turn to the creation of beauty in our environments and pleasure in our relationships. In all our interactions we are better able to understand the perspectives of others. We long to create a sense of balance between ourselves and those close to us.

When the Moon is in Libra we can see both sides of situations we find ourselves in or issues that are being discussed. It can be difficult to take a stand or make a decision. Sometimes it really may be best to simply flip a coin.

As always when the Moon is in Libra, make your home a beautiful place to be. It is May. Go outdoors and find some spring flowers for the dining room table and your nightstand. Beauty will make your heart sing.

Friday, May 13, 2022

The Moon continues through Libra today, highlighting relationships, teamwork, and cooperation. We want to please others and enjoy connections with our friends, co-workers, neighbors, and strangers.

However, it may not be as simple as that sounds. Libra is the Cardinal Air sign and is ruled by Venus. This suggests that our emotions are in service to Venus and with Venus currently in Aries, we are not likely to be as demure as Libra initially suggests. You may be far more willing to express direct opinions regardless of the result.

We seek connection and beauty with determination and strength. You may not want to butt heads but you are willing to do so for the greater good of your social environment.

At 6:33 AM EDT, the Moon enters the Fixed Water sign of Scorpio bringing emotional intensity to the weekend. Settle in and get comfortable with a deeper outlook of depth and passion.

Clarifying and committing to personal boundaries can be a helpful practice at this time. Emotional depth and a desire for privacy are a few of the hallmarks of this Fixed Water sign. Remember this as you interact with others over the next few days.

The Moon will remain in this passionate sign for several days. Don’t shy away from hidden or powerful mysteries. It may be time to dig deep to discover what is beneath the surface in your relationships, your family, or your own unconscious. When the Moon is in Scorpio we are ready to look beyond levels that are generally considered proper or polite. The point is to find the truth that has been hidden even if the issue is frightening or dangerous.

We are not interested in small talk and are prepared to grapple with topics previously avoided. Emotional intensity is evident, and you may need time alone to explore the depth of your inner nature over the weekend.

Sunday, May 15, 2022

The Full Moon lunar eclipse actually occurs just after midnight tonight, technically not today at all. But we may as well discuss it now as you will feel the energy build throughout the day!

Pay attention and don’t try to avoid or distract yourself from the emotional intensity of this Fixed Water eclipse.

Bring your awareness to the polarity of houses that hold Taurus and Scorpio in your chart. This is where the eclipses will occur for the next few years and an area of high importance during this time.

This Lunar Eclipse is the culmination of what began at the Solar Eclipse on April 30, 2022, and at the Scorpio New Moon on November 4, 2021. Think carefully about what connects these two periods of time with the houses involved in your natal chart. Today will bring your attention back to whatever your experience of the New Moon Solar eclipse on April 30th was. The causes and results may reveal themselves in the coming days.

This eclipse offers you the ability to discern what is real from illusion, particularly fearful illusions. Take a risk that involves going deep for a profound understanding of things normally hidden from view.

At 2:48 PM EDT the Sun, at 24 degrees of Taurus forms a challenging square aspect to Saturn at 24 degrees of Aquarius. This brings Saturn, the authoritative teacher of the zodiac into direct conflict with the eclipse. Do what you can to manage a general sense of aggravation and frustration. You may find yourself feeling pessimistic or even depressed. You may feel that your obligations and commitments are holding you back from something you think you need or want at this time. You may want to let go of something in your life that you haven’t finished the necessary work on yet. The tension that you feel over the next day or two may be pointing you in the direction of work that is still to do.

At 3:14 PM EDT, you will feel the building of a sextile aspect between the Sun and Neptune. This may offer an opportunity to work with the challenges of the day by engaging your imagination and creativity. Feelings of compassion, kindness, and connection increase. Let yourself get lost in dreams, imagination, and love for others. Simple daydreaming may open unexpected possibilities.

In these weekly reports, I explore the major aspects formed by transit between the planets. I do not consider every aspect that the Moon makes each day as they can be numerous and give rise to fleeting moods. The aspects under consideration: are conjunctions, sextiles, squares, trines, and oppositions. The planets I work with: are Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.
