Astrolore’s Weekly Astrology Weather: May 4, 2015 through May 10, 2015

Astrolore’s Weekly Astrology Weather: May 4, 2015 through May 10, 2015

As we come closer to the next Mercury retrograde (May 18th – June 11th), there are a few things I would like to talk about.

With the proliferation of astrological information on the internet, it is easy to get carried away with every astrological whim that comes along. Mercury retrograde is always a popular topic.

For many years I have tried to move the conversation of Mercury retrograde in a more positive direction; to help folks learn to work with the energies available rather than simply seeing it as a time of negativity.

There has been a move in a more positive attitude toward Mercury retrograde in many quarters, although we still hear plenty of fear and drama.

One thing I haven’t discussed until now is the issue of the Mercury retrograde shadow. This refers to the time (before the retrograde period) when Mercury reaches the point that it retrogrades back to; and the time following the retrograde period until it reaches the point where it went retrograde in the first place.

This upcoming Mercury retrograde starts on May 18 with Mercury at 13° Gemini; Mercury will turn direct on June 11 at 4° Gemini. The Mercury pre-retrograde shadow begins when Mercury hits 4° of Gemini (Monday May 4th); the post-Mercury shadow will last until June 26th when Mercury reaches 13° Gemini.

I have watched the issue of the Mercury retrograde shadow for many years and am finally ready to say that I don’t find any significant value in fussing over this shadow business.

Bottom line: I think we are just fine dealing with Mercury retrograde without worrying about the shadow period.

I understand that a great many excellent astrologers do work with the shadow. I don’t. There are so many issues in astrology and I feel the need to choose those parts that seem the most significant and leave the rest aside!

So, from my perspective, Mercury slows down a few days beforehand, and turns retrograde on May 18th at 13° Gemini and turns direct once again on June 11 at 4° Gemini. That is all we need to concern ourselves with. So give yourself a rest! Don’t worry about Mercury retrograde until it gets here!

Now, onward to the week!

Monday, May 4, 2015:
Get out your journal and go back to July 24, 2014, give or take a day or two. In what ways was your life circumstances or the essence of your being expanding at that time?

In mid-November, what action did you take to push that expansion forward? In early February, you probably saw your path fully illuminated, the creative expression released. Now with some time to gain perspective, a bit of realism may have you questioning the path you so passionately embraced. This could easily feel somewhat terrifying as you have probably put many eggs in that one basket!

Do not worry, but also do not deny the questions that are being raised. Take a clear look at the reality of where that seed planted in late July has brought you. Realistically consider the adjustments that must be made. Do not throw the baby out with the bathwater!

If you pay attention and talk with others, you will find that many people are questioning the direction that they so enthusiastically embarked upon last summer! Don’t worry; the cycle continues to unfold with new surprises and adjustments ahead.

Monday’s Moon in Scorpio opposes Mars at 9:50 PM EDT. Be aware of your tendency towards unhealthy, passive aggressive communications.

Practice openhearted kindness and clear direct communication. This may not come easily and is best developed through continual practice.
Pay attention; be kind.

Tuesday, May 5, 2015:
At 7:13 AM EDT, on Tuesday the Moon enters Sagittarius. Our hearts expand and we seek to enlarge our perspective of our world. We long for new experiences.

With the Moon conjunct Saturn at 12:37 PM EDT, there is a challenge to our ability to fully understand this new perspective. Tuesday would be an excellent day to challenge your understanding of different cultural perspectives and of those who live in your midst but have a very different worldview.

Given where we find ourselves at this time, it is important to pay attention to your understanding of racism within yourself and within the culture. It is difficult for many of us to look directly at our own deep-rooted subconscious attitudes and prejudices.

We must open our hearts and minds to understand the depth of disparity between our own experience and the experience of others.

Talk openly and with true, honest curiosity and compassion to those who have a very different view from your own. This open exploration of our inner attitudes is imperative to the future of all humankind.

Wednesday, May 6, 2015:
Wednesday offers us a powerful day indeed! The Taurus Sun makes a beautiful trine aspect to Pluto early on Wednesday morning. Think back to the first week in January 2015. Was there an occurrence or a circumstance at that time that felt like the beginning of deep empowerment and understanding?

This week, (particularly on Wednesday), it is good to consider what began at that time and how you are moving that issue forward in your life.

Keep the results clearly in mind. We are getting close. The full illumination of this cycle comes in early July. What is it you need to do now to push for that full expression to be exactly as empowering as you know it can be?

On Wednesday, the Moon in Sagittarius makes lovely aspects to expansive Jupiter and quirky unusual Uranus. Contemplate all the ways in which your life could change and expand through the exploration of other cultures and coming to understand people from other worlds.

Thursday, May 7, 2015:
We begin Thursday with the Moon still in Sagittarius going VOC* at 1:52 PM EDT (following an opposition to Venus). She enters Capricorn at 2:17 PM EDT. The afternoon then becomes more serious. You may want to stay at work late, as it is easy to remain focused on administrative or organizational tasks.

If you have a big project you are working on, Thursday afternoon is great for working on the foundation of that project.

There is much we each need to get done before Mercury goes retrograde on May 19th. This would be a good afternoon for setting the stage to make sure nothing slips through the cracks.

At 6:51 PM EDT, Venus happily enters Cancer where she will remain until June 5th. During this time, we may notice our attention turning to beautifying our home, spending time with family, sharing meals and memories.

We notice an increased appreciation for our loved ones and the nurturing care that we can offer. Look for ways to show love and care from the heart. Remember, with Venus in Cancer love is shown in maternal ways; prepare a meal; love and food are deeply connected here.

Friday, May 8, 2015:
We end the work-week with serious energy to get things done; our work ethic is strong. It is best to work alone today, if at all possible.

We don’t need the distraction of others as we push forward. We should feel solid and grounded and yet aware of the full ramifications of the direction we are pushing in.

As the Capricorn Moon once again challenges the energies of Pluto and Uranus, we cannot deny the stress we feel. Working alone should allow less conflict to darken your door. Much can be accomplished on your own with focus and dedication; if you must work with others use the stress between you as a way to expand awareness.

Maturity and simple communication skills will go a long way. Revel in accomplishment and ambition!

Saturday, May 9, 2015:
What was the dream that began in late March 2015? At that time, we many have received the mere glimmer of a dream that we have since been exploring.

At 12:08 PM EDT, Mercury squares Neptune asking that we take a concrete step toward developing that dream. When we are dealing with Neptune, we cannot expect direct clarity. Neptune is meant to dissolves boundaries.

Think about the lack of boundaries within our dreams. Don’t try to reason the direction or the step that must be taken. It must be felt within your heart or simply sensed internally. If you are still unclear, take time in meditation to allow a pathway for simple awareness.

The Moon is in Capricorn going VOC* following a trine to Mars at 4:34 PM EDT. This is another short VOC* as the Moon enters Aquarius at 7:21 PM EDT.

Enjoy an evening of unusual pleasures and new companions. Allow yourself to move forward with full confidence in your own individual path. This is a very individual path, it is important that we not allow others to dictate our step or direction.

Sunday, May 10, 2015:
Sunday is Mother’s Day. This Mother’s Day does not hold the energy we may expect, we may see the whole issue from a different perspective. This is not the day where you will be satisfied to shower love and affection on one individual mother.

Yes, of course you want to take your mother out to breakfast and show her your full appreciation for a lifetime of caring for you. But this Mother’s Day is bigger than that. This Mother’s Day take the time to show appreciation for all folks who dedicate their lives to raising healthy, intelligent humans.

This is about more than your individual mother; it is about everyone who has dedicated huge amounts of energy to care for and raise children. I think we all know that parenting is the hardest job in the world and yet millions of people undertake this amazingly honorable work.

Sunday, once you have fulfilled your duties of honoring the value of parenting, you will want to continue on your own path. Explore new ways of seeing and experiencing the world around you.

This week: The VOC* Moon!

VOC* (void of course) refers to the period of time between the final aspect that the Moon makes while in one sign until she enters the next sign. This can consist of several minutes or many hours. These periods are best handled with little expectation of accomplishment. These times are ideally suited for rest and contemplation.

Block off these times in your schedule and avoid making significant decisions or working on important projects during these times. During VOC* Moon, focus on routine tasks. You will be surprised at how this one change will smooth the edges of your life!

Do you have questions about what is appropriate to do or not do during the VOC* moon? A simple way to think about it is to ask a simple question: Do I hope that this activity will amount to something? If the activity does not need to amount to anything, go ahead with it!

If you have an expectation or desire that this action is going to amount to something, do not do it while the Moon is VOC*. Think about the time you bought a book you were certain you were going to love and you never could finish it! Think about the time you bought the perfect article of clothing that you ended up never wearing. That is the Moon VOC*!

Monday, May 4, 2015 the Moon is VOC* (in Scorpio) following an opposition to Mars at 9:50 p.m. EDT until entering Sagittarius at 7: 13 AM EDT on Tuesday ,May 5, 2015.

Thursday, May 7, 2015 the Moon is VOC* (in Sagittarius) following an opposition to Venus at 1:52 PM EDT until she enters Capricorn at 2:17 PM EDT.

Saturday, May 9, 2015 the Moon is VOC* (in Capricorn) following a trine to Mars at 4:34 PM EDT until entering Aquarius at 7:21 PM EDT.

* In these weekly reports, I am exploring the major aspects formed by transit between the planets. I do not consider every aspect that the Moon makes each day as they can be numerous and are often fleeting moods. I will consider the final major aspect formed by the Moon prior to its VOC* time, as that aspect holds its influence throughout the VOC*.

The aspects I consider: conjunctions, sextiles, squares, trines, and oppositions.
The planets I am working with: Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.
