Astrolore’s Weekly Astrology Weather: January 16, 2023 through January 22, 2023

Cold temperatures are tolerable in the face of already lengthening days

The week ahead is a significant one. The Sun exits the serious cardinal earth sign of Capricorn and enters the equally serious fixed air sign of Aquarius. It is important to understand that in traditional astrology both sober and determined signs that are ruled by Saturn. Capricorn deals primarily with practical conservative reality-based issues while Aquarius deals with future-oriented intellectual, social and humanitarian issues.

Shortly after this, we come to the Aquarius New Moon, allowing us a new start in innovative thinking. On January 22 our final retrograde comes to an end, giving us a free flow of energy until the next Mercury retrograde in late April.

Here on the coast of Maine, I am happily aware of the already lengthening days and the change in the angle of the sun. The cold does not bother me like it did when I was younger and the endurance of the cold is tolerable in the face of lengthening days.

The week begins with emotional intensity, courtesy of the Scorpio Moon. Emotional depth and a desire for privacy are a few of the hallmarks of this Fixed Water sign. Keep this in mind as you interact with others today.

Don’t shy away from hidden or powerful mysteries. Perhaps it may be time to find what is beneath the surface. When the Moon is in Scorpio we are able to dig deep to find hidden truths even if they are overwhelming to encounter.

You are not interested in small talk and yet the opposition to Uranus may bring things to the surface that must be managed today. Be prepared to grapple with topics previously avoided. When the Moon forms a challenging square aspect to Venus at 2:10 PM the emotional intensity is evident. This depth of emotion will play out within the context of relationships of all kinds.

You may need time alone to understand and accept the value of your deeply private perspective.

The Moon remains in sultry mysterious Scorpio this morning. Deep emotions require truth and honesty with yourself and others. Clarify your deepest desires and do your best to allow vulnerability in yourself and honor it in others. The Scorpio Moon favors intensity and depth of emotional connection.

At 12:33 PM ET, the Moon enters Sagittarius lightening the mood considerably. When the Moon is in Sagittarius we look for inspiration, growth, and adventure. We long to learn something new, travel, expand our horizons, and explore new vistas.

We don’t want to be held back or restricted by responsibilities or expectations. This is a day when we all want to play hooky without having to explain our actions or choices.

POWER DYNAMICS AND FORWARD MOTION – MERCURY STATIONS DIRECT

The Moon remains in the mutable fire sign of Sagittarius continuing the expansion of our understanding of the world we live in. The Moon steps into the background as several significant transiting aspects take precedence.

Mercury stations direct at 8:12 AM ET. This does not mean it is time to let go of all caution and blast forward. It takes time for Mercury’s forward path to get underway. However, this is worth celebrating! With Mars now direct in Gemini (ruled by Mercury), Mercury’s direct motion ends the sense of restraint we have been under since late October. The light will turn fully green over the next few days.

At 9:44 AM ET, the Sun joins with Pluto at 28 degrees Capricorn. This is a dance of power and control. This ends a cycle that began in January 2022 and begins a new year-long cycle. The old cycle must be reduced to rubble in order for the new to begin. Your focus will be on either breaking down a previous structure or building the new one.

Consider the area of your personal life where you are dealing with dynamics of power and control. You may feel great internal strength and self-determination today.

Spend time on your own as you will not be terribly tolerant of others, nor they of you, under this influence. Keep your temper in check and your actions geared toward improvement or reform. Make sure your heart is in the right place and you are functioning out of a place of kindness and integrity.

The Moon spends this morning in Sagittarius, entering Capricorn at 2:12 PM ET. Enjoy a sense of expansion, freedom, and optimism this morning. Later this afternoon your mind will turn to more serious endeavors. Keep in mind that we are also in the very darkest phase of the Moon as Saturday brings us to the New Moon and we begin the next lunar cycle.

Once the Moon is in Capricorn turn your attention to organizing, deploying resources, and making things happen. Capricorn is the Cardinal Earth sign and the most serious sign of the zodiac. It is ruled by Saturn, the authoritative teacher within the system of astrology.

Make plans for the future today. Determine and work toward making those plans a reality. Don’t scatter your efforts. Use them to move you toward a specific significant long-term goal.

As you push toward concrete goals, it may be easy to lose sight of others. Make it a serious goal to acknowledge the people who support your efforts. It may not come easily today, but affirming your loved ones will pay great benefits in the long run.

At 3:29 AM ET, the Sun shakes itself free from recent restrictions and difficulties as it begins Aquarius Season 2023. This shift may feel like an escape into freedom accompanied by a sense of relief. What has recently felt like safety, in retrospect, may feel like imprisonment. Over the coming month, strive for a new perspective and unique ways of getting things done.

While the Sun moves through this Fixed Air sign look for motivation through innovation and intellect. This is a time when individual freedom and human diversity take on greater meaning and focus.

Light and warmth come to the area of your chart that holds Aquarius. If you feel stuck in some area of your life you may find that you are willing to look for more unusual or technological solutions. The week comes to a close with the Moon still in Aquarius. This keeps our emotions functioning with objectivity and intellectual awareness. Immerse yourself in social gatherings, brainstorm unusual new ideas, and develop humanitarian goals.

As you move through the day you may feel a sense of dissatisfaction growing. At 5:12 PM ET Venus forms a conjunction with Saturn. Venus reflects personal values and Saturn points to serious responsibilities and restrictions. Be aware of the responsibilities and growth that come with love and intimate connections.

Your most significant relationships and your elders will have much to teach you over the next few days. If you are the elder in an interaction, understand your responsibility to those you have influence over.

Consider the importance of becoming a mentor or finding a mentor. Responsibilities provide powerful learning opportunities.

At 5:58 PM ET Uranus stations direct at 14° Taurus. This retrograde began on August 24, 2024, at 18° Taurus. Uranus exposes places of instability that we must pay attention to. Pay attention to unexpected changes and awareness that are primed for forward motion.

If you have personal planets or points between 13° – 15° of any fixed sign (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) these dramatic changes will be quite personal. A professional astrology consultation would be of great benefit.

The best thing about Uranus’ direct motion is that now all planets are moving forward. The next retrograde will be Mercury which will station retrograde on April 21st. This gives us three months when we are in a state of readiness for immediate action! All systems go!
