ON THE COLDEST DAY OF THE YEAR, CELEBRATE SPRING

Stone and Water

It is Saturday morning and as I write it is 15 degrees BELOW zero outside my tiny apartment. With the consideration of the wind chill factor, it is approximately 55 degrees BELOW zero. This extreme cold makes me appreciate the warmth and the brilliant sunshine coming through my windows.

Think of all the creatures, human and otherwise who do not have the luxury of easily accessible warmth. This is one of many things that we take for granted. Consider life without a secure roof and walls, warm blankets, and a thermostat to adjust the temperature of your home. How lucky, blessed, and advantaged we are.

As we move beyond Imbolc, the midpoint between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox we encounter the coldest days of the year. Yet underground the seeds are beginning to stir. Check your refrigerator’s produce bin. You will find that the onions are beginning to sprout.

On this coldest day of the year, a day that could be said to be colder than the hinges of hell, I celebrate Spring.

SPEAK UP GENTLY

Monday, February 6, 2023

The week begins with the Moon still in dynamic self-expressive Leo. Yesterday’s Full Moon left us a gift of enthusiasm, courage, and confidence that can support us in the days ahead. Allow yourself to show up brightly and enjoy the best of everyone you encounter today.

When the Moon moves into Virgo at 4:14 PM ET your attention turns to the practical tasks and projects you can engage with tomorrow. Something occurs this evening that reveals the full potential of those projects.

At 1:25 PM ET, Mercury forms a sextile aspect to Neptune, offering an opportunity to deliver a communication of gentle compassion. Your mind relaxes its judgments and you are able to be more understanding of others. The anxiety you have carried over the past few days is released when you express compassion toward yourself and others.

FIND A WAY TO BE HELPFUL TO OTHERS

Tuesday, February 7, 2023

The Moon continues through the mutable earth sign of Virgo today. The Moon’s orbit brings it through each sign on a monthly basis, spending 2 – 2.5 days in each sign. When the Moon is in Virgo our attention turns to practical matters and we are ready to work diligently on the details of a project or enterprise.

The problematic side of Virgo may rear its head as well. You may be overly critical of yourself and others and may even become obsessed with perfection. You may notice extreme environmental sensitivities toward lights, sounds, smells, etc.

Focus your attention on helping others and you will likely avoid the negative manifestations of this Moon placement. Yes, you will enjoy folding your laundry, sorting and filing paperwork, and organizing your junk drawers. Doing these types of tasks as a service for others, you will get the greatest benefits of this Moon placement.

FREEDOM ACTIVATES GROWTH

Wednesday, February 8, 2023

With the Moon still in Virgo, focus your attention on practical efforts necessary for positive change. Virgo sees potential in all things and wants to reach that potential. This is a time to analyze, refine, and perfect whatever needs doing in your environment.

You can get detail-oriented work done while the Moon is in Virgo. Clean up your workstation, take care of the paperwork that needs to be done, and complete household chores that have been neglected. Make lists, help others, clean, organize, and solve problems.

In the wee hours of the morning, Venus forms a sextile aspect to Uranus. These aspects offer potential, opportunities, and possibilities. Venus shows us how to please others, be diplomatic, make connections, and create balance. Notice the emergence of new and unexpected desires. You may feel electrified by a need for freedom and spontaneous action. Allow yourself to connect in unexpected ways with new people. Horizons open through relationships with folks you may not normally connect with.

The desire for freedom activates spontaneous growth.

BEAUTY AND DIPLOMACY

Thursday, February 9, 2023

While you slept the Moon finished its time in Virgo and entered the cardinal air sign of Libra. Leave criticism behind as you focus on personal connections, diplomacy, and social pleasantries.

When the Moon is in Libra, our emotional needs are supported by enjoyment, love, and beauty. Bring your attention to your relationships with intimate partners and workmates. You may be called upon to regard both sides of a situation. Practice your intellectual diplomatic skills.

The whole world will brighten if you create beauty by placing flowers in your sightline. If you are working at a desk put flowers there. If you are at home put flowers on the dining room table and by the bedside.

Surround your visual sphere with the beauty that makes your heart sing. This will soften and open your heart. Bring flowers to a friend or partner for no reason other than love. Make an unexpected middle-of-the-week date with someone special. Show up, be present, listen to, and fully connect with the person or persons close by.

SHIFTING CULTURAL AND PERSONAL POWER

Friday, February 10, 2023

The Moon continues through Libra today, highlighting relationships, teamwork, and cooperation. We want to please others and enjoy connections with our friends, co-workers, neighbors, and strangers. In all our interactions we are better able to understand the perspectives of others. We long to create a sense of balance between ourselves and those close to us. When the Moon is in Libra fairness is important to us. We seek intellectually diplomatic solutions over practical earth-based ones.

At 12:15 PM ET Mercury joins Pluto at 29 degrees Capricorn. Mercury joins with Pluto once each year. Since 2007 these conjunctions have occurred in Capricorn. When these planets come together next year they will be in Aquarius. This concludes a very serious conversation that the culture has been embroiled in for the past 16 years. The next time this conjunction occurs in Capricorn will be in 2254. Yes, you read that correctly.

In the coming weeks, you will be hearing more about the movement of Pluto into Aquarius (March 23).   Think of this conjunction as the beginning of the end of a difficult story. What have been the most difficult cultural conversations since 2007? Money, Guns, and Power come to the top of the list. How will the conversation change?

On a personal note, pay attention to the house Capricorn occupies in your chart. If you have planets in the very late degrees of Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) this has a very direct relevance for you. What profoundly difficult conversations about power and destruction are you embroiled in?

Contemplate and talk about the transformation occurring in the culture as well as in your personal thinking.

INNOVATIVE THINKING – NOVEL THOUGHTS

Saturday, February 11, 2023

The day begins with the Moon still in Libra, continuing the theme of pleasure, sociability, balance, and diplomacy. Anticipate deepening emotions when the Moon leaves Libra behind and enters Scorpio at 1:35 PM ET. The Scorpio Moon favors intensity and depth of emotional connection.

As she moves through Scorpio her needs tend to be deep, self-protective, and not terribly trusting. Although emotions are deep, your preference may be to go underground and keep your feelings to yourself. If being vulnerable is out of the question, time alone may be your best bet.

After its meeting with Pluto yesterday (at 1:35 PM ET) Mercury enters Aquarius. Mercury is the planet that represents our thinking, ideas, and communications. Mercury will remain in the intellectual and innovative sign of Aquarius until March 2, 2023. With Mercury in this fixed-air sign, you are hungry for knowledge that will highlight your most unique and original ideas.  Allow your thoughts to expand beyond previous constraints.

Determine to bring more objectivity and progressive thinking to all your conversations. Innovative thinking highlights your ability to create something new. At least for now, leave your most traditional thought patterns behind.

Novel solutions open our way into the future. Keep your eyes open for innovative big ideas and be ready to share them with others.

DEEP EMOTIONAL VULNERABILITY

Sunday, February 12, 2023

The Moon remains in sultry mysterious Scorpio today. Deep emotions require truth and honesty with yourself and others. Clarify your deepest desires. Do your best to allow yourself to show your deepest emotional susceptibilities to those you love and trust.

When the Moon is in this powerful sign your emotions may be difficult to face head-on, due to the deep places they lead you. You may choose to go underground and keep those emotions private.

Emotional maturity requires truth and honesty with yourself and others. This takes vulnerability. It can be difficult to show others the depth of your vulnerability and yet when you do so you experience great strength and relief. Sharing this burden will open your heart. If you are not ready to do so with others, time alone is your best bet. Begin by learning to be vulnerable with yourself.

The Scorpio Moon favors intensity and depth of emotional connection. This is not a favorite position for the Moon. As she moves through Scorpio her needs tend to be deep, self-protective, and not very trusting. Open up to yourself, and take time to look inside.

In these weekly reports, I explore the major aspects formed by transit between the planets. I do not consider every aspect that the Moon makes each day as they can be numerous and give rise to fleeting moods. The aspects under consideration are conjunctions, sextiles, squares, trines, and oppositions. The planets I work with are the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.
