As we enter the fickle month of March, let’s celebrate the upcoming change to Daylight Savings time which is only 2 weeks away. Already we are experiencing longer days and noticing the warmth in the sun no matter how cold the air is. In 2 weeks with the clocks moving ahead, we will return to much longer days as well as the sun continuing to get warmer by the day.

Last week we had a reprieve with temperatures in the 40s and 50s, robins showing their rust-colored bellies, and melting snows. The past few days have returned us to the reality of February with cold temperatures, high winds, and blowing snow.

There is a bit of humor attached to folks who talk too much about the weather. The premise is that they have nothing better to talk about and yet, there are not too many things that impact all of us than the weather. Most of us respond to sunshine by feeling more uplifted and to rain and grey skies by feeling low or sleepy. I know that is a generalization as I love nothing more than a rainy day if I have a lot of writing to get done in a single day.

Today it is very cold and the sun is shining. I am grateful to have tall windows to let the sunshine in. Kairos (affectionately known as KB) is happy to watch the many birds on our street from those sunny windows.

The week begins with the Moon in Gemini at its first quarter phase. This places the moon halfway between last week’s Pisces New Moon and next week’s Virgo Full Moon.
This is an active phase of the lunar cycle, with a 90-degree square formed between the Sun and the Moon.  A deep tension arises, pushing us to do something. With the Moon in Gemini, the action needed will involve communication. Determine who you need to contact and what you need to say. If someone reaches out to you today, the necessary action is to listen carefully and respond with the future in mind.
Consider the metaphorical seed you planted at your New Moon ritual last week. Whatever needs to be said or heard must support the growth of that metaphorical seed. This may not be an easy step to take. At each quarter moon phase, we take a turn that will bring us to fulfillment or failure. Speak up, and be sure to listen.
Mark the First Quarter Moon on your calendar each month. It occurs a week after each New Moon. On this day each month make it a point to take at least one courageous act related to the ‘seed’ you planted at the New Moon. Implementing this powerful habit will create forward motion and increase motivation.

The Moon continues through Gemini for the bulk of today. This brings a day of curiosity, interesting engagements, and conversations with others. Socializing comes easily at this time.

In general, the Gemini Moon offers a time of good humor and quick-moving social energy. It is best to keep things light and easy. The mood of the day may be flighty or even fickle.

Stimulating conversations keep emotions stable while the Moon is in this quick-thinking mutable air sign. Without mental stimulation, it is easy to become irritable or anxious. Keep your mind occupied with a variety of light-hearted conversations.

At 9:41 PM ET the Moon, tired now of mental gymnastics, enters the deeply sensitive sign of Cancer. If you find yourself moody or sad, get some sleep and dream of nostalgic issues of family and home.

Wednesday, March 1, 2023

The restlessness of the past few days has given way to the need for a sense of belonging and emotional connection. When the Moon is in Cancer we are drawn to places of safety and people who care for us deeply. Because Cancer is ruled by the Moon, our experience of this Moon placement is more powerful than others.

Expect to feel a full range of emotions throughout the day. Cancer is not only a water sign but also a cardinal sign. Cardinal signs are strong and must take action. What can you accomplish by putting your sensitivities to work? Practice patience and loving-kindness toward yourself and others.

Avoid being overwhelmed by channeling your vulnerability into a positive change. Feelings may surface in surprising ways and your emotions may be unpredictable. It is best to allow yourself to show deep sensitivity and vulnerability. Trying to deny these feelings will result in tears, defensiveness, and regret.

Focus on domestic activities, deep emotional motivations, and connections with close family members. Spend time with loved ones, indulge in open-hearted connections, and allow your heart to swell with compassion and deep love.

There is a great deal of astrological activity today, but with the moon in Cancer, your emotions will remain front and center. Two significant conjunctions happen this morning. A conjunction occurs when two planets occupy the same degree of the same sign. Conjunctions begin new cycles.

First, we have Venus and Jupiter joining together for their annual meeting at 12 degrees Aries.  This is a lovely aspect that begins a cycle of warmth, growth, and love. Plant a metaphorical seed for the growth of courage that will enable you to accept and offer love directly and assertively. Courageous Love is ready to expand. Plant the seed and be prepared to tend to it in the coming months.

Shortly after that, Mercury conjuncts Saturn, bringing your thinking to serious matters. Plant a seed for the growth of future intellectual satisfaction. Find a focus of concentration and engage your most logical thought processes. If your thinking gets stuck on a negative or pessimistic track, find an important and serious task to put your mind to. Your intellect needs focus and a job to do. This is the beginning of a cycle of stabilizing your mind and securing your attention. Develop a plan, plant a seed, and watch it grow over time.

At 5:51 PM ET, Mercury enters Pisces.  As you head toward evening your thoughts take on a more sensitive or mystical tone. You may want to talk about spiritual issues, sit down with a book of poetry, or get lost in a film.

Mercury will remain in Pisces until March 18, 2023. During this time your thinking is more intuitive, imaginative, and sensitive than usual. You may be more aware of the suffering of others. As you allow the suffering of others to move you, you are able to develop a powerful compassion for all who share our planet. The world needs more compassion, open your heart and your mind over the coming weeks and let it in.

Today starts out with the moon still in Cancer offering a continuation of the sensitivity of the past few days. However, all that changes when, at 10:16 AM ET, the Moon shakes off the sensitivity of the past few days and enters Leo. She is now ready to be rejuvenated with simple pleasure and fun!

When the Moon is in Leo we want to express ourselves with warmth and generosity. We want others to appreciate us for our radiant creativity and resilience. The next few days will be an exercise in opening your heart and expressing passion and enthusiasm.

Leo is the fixed fire sign that brings drama, creativity, glamor, and fun into focus. We want to express our personalities with playfulness fervor, and excitement.

Shower your friends and loved ones with warmth and generosity. Gifts for no reason will be appreciated and open the door to deeper connections. Shine brightly. Show love.

I love it when the Leo Moon lands on a weekend. It offers such good energy for playfulness and social pleasures. When the Moon is in Leo we are ready to express ourselves fully and to be seen clearly. Leo is ruled by the Sun and brings the energy of enthusiasm and optimism. All else being equal the Leo Moon simply feels good. We are more able than usual to exude courage and confidence.

You can expect large emotions and a desire for grand gestures. Leo needs to go big, to express attention, affection, and love in over-the-top ways that can not be misconstrued. Grand and dramatic gestures fulfill grand and dramatic desires.

At 5:54 PM ET, the Moon squares Uranus. If you find yourself feeling anxious this evening, change your perspective. The other side of anxiety is excitement so find a perspective that illuminates that! Look for fun and a reason to engage in something unusual. Seek excitement and sparkle.

Sunday, March 5, 2023

Yesterday as the Leo Moon squared Uranus it brought a bit of anxiety, today it opposes Saturn bringing a serious edge to a fun weekend.

Our attention is directed to the difficulties in the world and culture that are beyond our control. This Leo Moon asks us a very simple question. How can we help others?

Saturn asks that we face reality and our personal responsibilities. Leo solves problems by expressing over-the-top generosity. Leo is a very personal sign and today the large difficulties of the world feel very personal indeed. If you are able to express generosity with money or resources, find a cause that you feel great supporting.

You can express generosity in many other ways. Get creative and make sure that your generosity is a true expression of what you believe and are passionate about. Whatever your gifts, today is a day to give them freely. The Sun rules Leo and warms us all with heat, passion, and light.

At 10:38 PM ET, the Moon enters Virgo. You will sleep well tonight and wake up to a Monday morning focused on practical endeavors.

Life in the home of a cat and an astrologer

In these weekly reports, I explore the major aspects formed by transit between the planets. I do not consider every aspect that the Moon makes each day as they can be numerous and give rise to fleeting moods. The aspects under consideration are conjunctions, sextiles, squares, trines, and oppositions. The planets I work with are the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.
